Lions rally comes up short at Northwood

CEDAR HILL, Texas -- Rallying from a 6-0 deficit to within 7-6 in the seventh inning, the Southwestern Assemblies of God 
University comeback came up short in a 9-6 loss at #24 Northwood University this afternoon.
The Lions rapped out 11 hits and worked Northwood pitchers for eight walks. However, they struggled to get clutch hits and left 10 runners on base. The Knights' defense played their part in staving off SAGU scoring threats by turning three double-plays as well throwing out two-of-three would-be base stealers.
Meanwhile, Northwood collected 13 hits, including three apiece from Adam Humes, Cutter Forman and Joee Reyna, the latter driving in three runs. Leadoff batter Edwin Arroyo, who has hit .477 in his two years at the ballpark on the rocks of Cedar Ridge, added a pair of hits and three RBI.
A season-high six errors by Southwestern fielders helped fuel the Knights attack.
The Lions scored a run in the fifth, two in the sixth and three in the top of the seventh to draw to within a run. Northwood answered with a two-spot in the bottom of the seventh.
Two relievers blanked SAGU in the eighth and ninth innings, each allowing one hit, to secure the victory.
SAGU's Nic Morgan (Ft. Worth, Tx / LeTourneau Univ, Boswell HS), now 2-2 took the loss.
The Lions slid to 9-6 overall and are 0-4 in the Red River Athletic Conference. Northwood is 8-3-1 and 3-0-1 in league action.
The teams will play twice on Saturday. Southwestern will send a pair of freshmen, Rockie Davis (Santa Fe, Tx / Santa Fe HS) and Robert Elles (Red Oak, Tx / Tyler JuCo, Red Oak HS) to the hill in a doubleheader that is set for a noon first pitch.
