Alumna Leah Laredo Named First-Year Teacher of the Year
Leah Laredo graduated from SAGU May 2008 with a degree in Education. She teaches at Moore Elementary School in Pasadena ISD and was named First-Year Teacher of the Year. The award is given to one teacher out of the twenty-nine elementary schools in the district.
“I feel completely honored to have been chosen to receive this award,” Laredo said. “I know it’s a God-thing. I give Him all the glory. Every day I walk into my classroom, I acknowledge Him and I think this is a way He is to receive glory.”
Pasadena is the second largest district in the Houston area, second only to Houston ISD. This past school year, Laredo taught 4th grade Language Arts (Reading, Language, Spelling, and Social Studies).
“My first year of teaching is something I’ll always look back on with fond memories,” commented Laredo. “I was privileged to be a part of a wonderful school and 4th grade veteran team, and I learned so much from each of my team members. I didn’t know what to expect going into the classroom for the first time, but with every lesson I taught, I gave it to the Lord to help me teach as best as I can.”
According to Laredo, “My education teachers at SAGU more than prepared me. I always enjoyed how many of the teachers would walk in the classroom with a smile on their face, and that’s another thing I took with me. At SAGU, it was beyond presenting a great lesson; the focus was also on character.”
