CHICKASHA, Oklahoma  --  Southwestern Assemblies of God University dropped the first game of a three-game set against University of Science & Arts of Oklahoma (USAO). Saturday's doubleheader, originally scheduled for 1:00pm, has been moved up to noon.

The teams entered this series battling to secure sixth place in the Sooner Athletic Conference. SAGU held a two-game lead.

USAO took the opener on Friday (a full report will be posted on Saturday).

Lions Head Coach Sam Blackmon confirmed on Friday night that Hayden Killebrew (Red Oak, Tx / Red Oak HS) and Pedro "Tres" Ortiz (Lorena, Tx / Lorena HS) have been picked to start on the hill.

Making his fifth start is Killebrew. The 6'2 sophomore right-hander is 2-1 overall with a 5.01 earned run average. Ortiz will carry a 2-5 mark and a 3.86 ERA into his eighth start.

SAGU has a collective .287 team batting average, which is fifth best in the SAC. USAO swings at a .317 clip (third), turning them into 6.5 runs per game. The Lions average 4.4, ranking 8th in the hornbeck-at-usaoconference.

The Lions pitching staff goes up against a Drovers attack that has hit 18 homers (4th) in the SAC, or, fifteen more than Team Purple.

Even after Friday's 20-1 setback the Lions own a comparitive edge in team ERA's; 4.85 to USAO's 5.76. The team also holds a .952 (4th) to .938 (7th) advantage in team fielding percentage.

The Drovers have shown the ability to put together some impressive performances; recently routing No. 13 Northwood University, 18-12, and No. 20 Texas Wesleyan University, 20-10.

An individual match-up to watch involves to of the SAC's Top 5 batters.

The Drovers' Chris Musick, a 5'10 junior infielder from Amarillo, is third with a .425 batting average. He leads SAGU's senior Jared Denton (Mission, Tx / Sharyland HS) by one point.

On Friday it was Musick getting a quick upperhand, going 2-for-4. Denton was hitless in two at bats.

Neither team played well defensively.

SAGU committed a season high six errors, all by three infielders. Science & Arts had three, two by their catcher.

Next Weekend:  St. Greg's at SAGU

The Lions return home next weekend when St. Gregory's University (Ok) (9-20 overall / 2-11 in SAC) comes to town for three-games.

Friday, April 4, they are planning a 4:00pm doubleheader at the Waxahachie Sports Complex. The next day at noon the Cavaliers and Lions will play a nine-inning contest on the campus ballfield.

Two Forfeits effect the 2013 Lions Record

SAGU added a pair of wins when the University of the Southwest forfeited two games for use of an ineligible player last season. The Lions won the other game in the series, which was played in Hobbs, New Mexico.

The triumphs improve the 2013 Lions record to 16-32 (.333) and their ledger in the Red River Athletic Conference to 6-20.
