WAXAHACHIE, Texas  --  Southwestern Assemblies of God University came up short against the University of Science & Arts of Oklahoma on a blustery Tuesday afternoon.

The 3-0 setback dropped the Lady Lions record to 2-14 overall and 0-8 against the Sooner Athletic Conference.

Seventh place USAO improved to 5-9 and 4-4. It was the third straight triumph for the Lady Drovers. They were 11-7-1 a year ago.

Freshman Angelina Bickley (Salt Lake City, Ut / Taylorsville HS) played the first half between the pipes, limiting the Lady Drovers to one goal.

SAGU continued their solid effort on defense, thwarting USAO the entire match. The gold clad visitors managed seven shots in each half, most from the perimeter.

The Lady Lions tirelessly fought to get their offense going. A year after scoring a school record 28 goals they have booted six in 2013.

More than holding their own defensively, the team has allowed only 2.2 goals per game in eight league contests.

Natalie Pena (Dallas, Tx / Tulsa Union HS), Lyndi Garrison (Hastings, Mich / Thornapple Kellogg HS), Justine Lopez (Red Oak, Tx / Red Oak HS) and Ashley Nop (Stockton, Cal / Lincoln HS) were especially active on the defensive end.

SAGU’s best chances to score came on a pair of second half direct kicks.

Junior forward Amber Belisle (Roseville, Cal / Whitney HS) drilled a 28 yard shot that sailed over a defensive wall and beyond the keeper’s reach. It bounced off the cross bar (eight feet high).ws-bickley

Following a USAO foul, freshman defender Kaylie Cox (Midlothian, Tx / Midlothian HS) crushed another, this one from 32 yards on the right side. It sailed wide after eluding the defense.

Five minutes into the second stanza the Drovers extended their lead to 2-0 on a Linda Addo tally from eight yards away. The shot by the native of Ghana was just inside the right post.

Jade Ovendale, who assisted the second goal, collected her 16th of the season in the seventy-first minute.

She broke through a double team and banged a laser from twelve yards. The hot shot went through the goalie’s hands about six feet high.

Ovendale, a junior from England, leads the Sooner in scoring with 38 points and ranks 24th nationally in goals.

Two games remain.

SAGU heads to Fort Worth to meet Texas Wesleyan University (10-4-2 / 4-4-1 in SAC) on Saturday, November 2. The night game is set for 5:00pm at Martin Field.

SAGU ends the 2013 campaign on Monday, Nov. 4. They play host to Oklahoma City University (11-4 / 7-1 in SAC) at noon on campus.

The Stars are ranked #20 in the latest NAIA Coaches Poll.

The game was originally scheduled for September 28, but was postponed due to lightning. The encounter will be the first ever between the teams.
