Alumnus pastors one of 2013's Top 100 fastest growing churches in AmericaWaxahachie, Texas — March 7, 2013 — Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) alumnus Abram Gomez serves as the executive pastor of Valley International Christian Center (VICC) in San Benito, Texas, one of Outreach Magazine's 2013 top 100 fastest growing churches in America.

"We feel honored and humbled by the recognition," Gomez said. "Our church is in the community of San Benito, which is comprised of only about 26,000 people."

Abram Gomez has been on staff at VICC for eight years under the leadership of senior pastor Jaime Loya, and as the executive pastor, Gomez oversees all staff members, church ministries, and small groups that have branched out from the VICC ministry. VICC has been featured twice–first in 2011, second in 2013–as one of the top 100 fastest churches in America by Outreach Magazine.

Despite its location in the second-poorest county in Texas, the 2,000-member church is one of the largest in the region, reaching out to the community with various children, youth, and adult ministries. The VICC will soon move into a brand new 2,000-seat facility with a contemporary children's wing, administrative offices, book store, and cafe. "What is happening in our ministry," Gomez acknowledged, "is a very evident grace and work of the Lord."

Gomez also is a contributing author for Valley Christian Magazine, a magazine circulated in the Rio Grande Valley region. He mentors other young leaders in the region, hoping that the Lord will use him and the VICC team "to spiritually empower the next generation."

"We want people to be inspired and encouraged by what God is doing in our community," Gomez affirmed. "I hope that others will take our story and make one of their own, wherever God has planted them."

Abram Gomez graduated from SAGU in the spring of 2003 with a Bachelor of Science in church ministries and is pursuing a master's degree in human services with a specialization in executive leadership from Liberty University. He and his wife, Rebecca, reside in Harlingen along with their daughter Isabella.
