SAGU alumna coordinates Waxahachie community giveaway
Waxahachie, Texas — February. 10, 2014 — Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) alumna and adjunct instructor Rebecca Manguno hosted Waxahachie Bible Church's 4th annual After Christmas Giveaway on January 11, 2014.
Rebecca Manguno graduated from SAGU in 2007 with a bachelor's degree in professional development. She has taught SAGU's self defense courses for the past eight years. She coordinated the first After Christmas Giveaway in January 2011 at the Waxahachie Bible Church.
"I founded the ministry event four years ago after Pastor Bruce Zimmerman, of Waxahachie Bible Church, challenged his congregation to put 1 John 3:16-18 — a passage about Christ's abundant giving, into practice," Manguno said.
"The heart of this ministry is to share the love of Jesus by loving others, so we give out of our abundance to supply the physical needs of our guests. It is through meeting physical needs that opportunities arise for the Holy Spirit to meet spiritual needs."
Manguno continued, "Many of our guests ask about Christ because they have been touched so significantly through this event. We don't have to push the Gospel message because it is being played out before their eyes. It's always exciting to hear people with 'new' coats, shoes, and food ask, 'Will you tell me more about Jesus?'"
The Annual Christmas Giveaway served nearly 600 people this year, which was three times more than those served at past giveaways. "The need is here," Manguno stated. "People are hungry for physical and Living Bread."
