Alumni band releases self-titled album 'OneAmongMany'
Waxahachie, Texas — October 26, 2012 — Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) alumni Binil Chacko, Jeanette Martinez and Shan Varghes are members of the Christian music group OneAmongMany. The group released its first album in July 2012. The album can be purchased through iTunes, Amazon, CDBaby and Spotify.
"Our goal as a band is to write songs that will speak to people who are hurting and lost," says Martinez. "We want them to find hope and light through our music."
The release party for OneAmongMany's album was a two-night event in July 2012. The event began at the Indian Pentecostal Church in Houston, Texas, on Friday, July 20. On Saturday, the band performed at the Loft at Gilley's in Dallas. The Animal Family Singers (Texas) and the UPAFTER (Long Island, N.Y.) also performed.
The self-titled album "OneAmongMany" is an extended play album consisting of five original songs composed by Chacko. Many of the songs are rooted in personal experiences.
OneAmongMany was formed five years ago when Chacko, Martinez and Varghese began playing music together. Current members include Binil Chacko (vocals/ acoustic guitar), Jeanette Martinez (vocals), Shan Varghese (rhythm electric), Joshua Thomas (lead electric guitar), Robin Samuel (keys and synthesizer), Jeremy Alvidrez (bass guitar) and Joel Matthew (drums).
OneAmongMany performs at local events in various churches and coffee shops. The band recently led worship at the annual Assemblies of God India Fellowship National Association (AGIFNA) Conference in Mesquite, Texas.
Chacko and Martinez appreciate the preparation and experience they gained as musicians at SAGU. Both participated in SAGU chapel worship teams. Chacko says, "SAGU provided a platform for me to practice performing. I was able to connect with other creative minds and develop as a writer and a leader."
In 2011, Chacko participated in the recording of the SAGU worship album "In All the Earth," released November 3, 2011. Chacko's song "Shine" was featured in the March 2012 issue of Worship Leader magazine's Song DISCovery, a resource for worship leaders.
Binil Chacko graduated from SAGU in Spring 2012 with a Bachelor of Science in church ministries. Martinez graduated in Spring 2012 with a bachelor's degree in music ministries. Shan Varghese graduated in Fall 2011 with a Bachelor of Science in accounting.
