W axahachie, Texas – September 16, 2015 – Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) alumni Seth and Lacey Henderson were announced Executive Directors of New Horizons of North Texas in June 2015.

New Horizons International is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping at-risk children and teens who are growing up in an environment of poverty, academic failure and hopelessness. The organization was based in Southwest Florida 12 years ago by founders Bob and Ellen Nichols and opened their first affiliate location in North Texas in 2015.

New Horizons of North Texas serves the North Texas area through after school tutoring and mentoring. The after school programs emphasize core values such as honesty, integrity and personal responsibility in daily character building lessons. Seth explained, “The program is really simple: we want to provide academic support to help our kids succeed and introduce them to the greatest story they will hear–the salvation of Jesus.” He continued, “So for us, it’s ultimately about discipling our kids and their families through the relational bridge of education.”

Seth is from Arkansas and graduated from SAGU in 2006 with a bachelor’s degree in Church Ministries and later from George Fox Evangelical Seminary with a master’s degree in Ministry Leadership in 2014. Working around North Texas, he has been in positions that focus on youth, church operations, involvement and organizational infrastructure and systems.Seth married Lacey in 2005, and they have two daughters.

Lacey graduated from SAGU in 2007 with her bachelor’s degree in Secondary English Education. She continued to work as a teacher in urban and suburban schools for seven years.

Seth and Lacey both have a passion to ignite redemptive hope and purpose in others to see a city transformed by God from the inside out. They believe in the power of education and mentorship that changes the lives of students, and desire to see a love for education stirred up in the kids sparking confidence and self-worth. “This Director role brought together my wife and my skill sets, dreams, passions and experiences. It allows us to work together to serve marginalized kids who are at-risk academically and spiritually,” said Seth.

SAGU played a big role in the Henderson’s decision to become the directors of New Horizons, “During our time at SAGU, it was the culmination of a solid education, consistent encouragement from the SAGU community, and our church involvement where we developed a strong sense of confidence to fulfill God’s purpose for our lives. SAGU was crucial in this process for us.”

With the passion to see their community changed they became part of New Horizons International. Seth said, “My wife and I co-direct New Horizons, so it is a unique opportunity for us to work together in the realm of community development and education, which are areas of passion for us both.”

Since June, Seth and Lacey are hard at work recruiting volunteer mentors and building partnerships with local churches and businesses to empower at-risk kids and youth. Seth announced, “Our elementary after-school program launches in Dallas on September 14, 2015, at a struggling school in Dallas ISD.”
