WCC update: February 15, 2013
Waxahachie, Texas — February 15, 2013 — Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) broke ground on the World Communication Center (WCC) on Friday, April 27, 2012.
Steel construction is complete on the building. 95 percent of the internal framing is complete and the classrooms, offices and common areas are taking shape. Workers are constructing the catwalk system over the seating area in the auditorium. Brick and stone work continue around the building including 75-foot cupola.
Faculty and staff will begin moving in on August 12, 2013 to prepare for the fall semester. The building dedication is set for SAGU Homecoming in October.
Since the ground breaking, 3i Construction has relocated major utility feeds, finalized design and engineering for the footings, floor and structural steel, and completed foundation work. All storm drain and sanitary sewer lines have also been upgraded across campus to the Sycamore Street/ Highland Street intersection. Additionally, the 52-foot block wall that surrounds the performing arts auditorium is complete.
To date, $13.5 million has been committed toward the $21 million project. The Alumni association is raising funds for the auditorium seating. Donors have the opportunity to place their name on a seat or row they have purchased.
