SAGU receives two new Steinway grand pianos for HCC
Waxahachie, Texas — July 19, 2013 — Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) received sizable donations to purchase two new Steinway grand pianos for the Hagee Communication Center (HCC). Hobby Lobby’s $50,000 donation purchased a Steinway Model A Grand for the HCC Choir Room. C. Lawrence and Alletha M. Barnett’s $120,000 donation purchased the Steinway Model D Concert Grand (9') for the HCC performance hall.
SAGU's Music Department Chair Dr. Linda Robins shared, “As we prepare undergraduate and graduate students to successfully fill evangelistic, missionary and church ministry roles, we further our mission of quality education by providing students with the best musical instruments available. The university took a very responsible approach in funding the All-Steinway project, and in only three years, we have 21 Steinway and Boston pianos on our campus paid for through cash donations.”
SAGU is one of only 154 prestigious colleges, universities, and conservatories worldwide that hold the title of All-Steinway School. SAGU is the first Assemblies of God institution of higher learning to earn this status. The University of Arkansas, Oklahoma State University, Curtis Institute of Music, Yale School of Music, and Texas Christian University are just a few of the other illustrious institutions on the roster.
Robins continued, “I will never forget the vision the Lord gave me in 2008 for SAGU to become an All-Steinway School. There was a peaceful, calm assurance in my spirit that God would provide the money for us to accomplish this task. All I knew was that the money would come from donations outside of normal fundraising endeavors.”
Other donors contributed to SAGU's All-Steinway status. Hobby Lobby and Mr. and Mrs. Barnett each bought a grand piano previous to their most recent donation. Bob and Chimene Burke purchased one grand and two Steinway studio pianos, and Dr. Paul and Mary Savell purchased one grand piano. The Bridge Assembly of God in Mustang, Okla.,(Pastor Jim NcNabb) purchased two Boston studio pianos, and People's Church in Oklahoma City, Okla., purchased one Steinway studio Piano.
These purchases will update SAGU's piano fleet to 5 Steinway grand pianos, 2 Steinway upright grand pianos, 3 Steinway studio pianos, 11 Boston studio pianos.
