Alumnus launches online guitar training website
Waxahachie, Texas — October 11, 2012 — Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) alumnus Nathan Otwell launched an online guitar training website in September called Worship Guitar Resources (WGR).
The idea for Worship Guitar Resources (WGR) came while Otwell taught guitar lessons at Christ for the Nations Institute of Dallas (CFNI) and SAGU. He had been teaching for three years and was unable to provide lessons for all those interested in learning.
"I was teaching guitar lessons for about 50 students a week," Otwell said. "It became something I really loved and I began coming up with different methods to teach."
Otwell's website, unlike many other praise and worship resource sites focuses only on guitar. "WGR starts with the basics," says Otwell. "Many other guitar resource websites assume that the student has some musical background."
"The goal is simple: to offer affordable, convenient, systematic worship guitar lessons online so that anyone anywhere can learn to play," says Otwell. "Worship music is such a powerful force for the kingdom of God. To be a small part of expanding His kingdom is worth everything."
There are two different subscriptions available on WGR, a basic plan and a premium plan. Both subscriptions allow unlimited access to the video lessons, and access to a song and chord library. The premium plan option allows students to upload videos of themselves playing so that Nathan can provide feedback on their progress and suggestions for improvement.
Otwell's ultimate goal for WGR is that it be used as curriculum for missionaries, distance education in Christian colleges or universities and schools of worship. "It would be great for those venues to have access to a Christian guitar instructor wherever they are for a cheaper price," says Otwell.
Nathan Otwell graduated from SAGU in 2006 with a bachelor's in contemporary worship music. Upon graduating from SAGU, Otwell began teaching guitar lessons at CFNI and joined the staff of Crossroads of Life Assembly of God in Duncanville, Texas.
Nathan Otwell currently serves as the worship pastor of Life Fellowship Assembly of God Church in Allen, Texas. Otwell continues to teaches guitar lessons at CFNI. He and his wife Brittney, also a SAGU graduate, have a son named Canaan.
