SAGU Resolution

Southwestern Assemblies of God University is a Bible-based institution for theological and professional studies. It is rooted in the great commission of Jesus to "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation" and to "make disciples of all nations...teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you..." (Mark 16:15a; Matthew 28:19-20), which is the primary emphasis of Southwestern's parent body, the General Council of the Assemblies of God.

The purpose of Southwestern Assemblies of God University is to prepare undergraduate and graduate students spiritually, academically, professionally, and cross culturally, so as to successfully fill evangelistic, missionary, and church ministry roles, and to provide quality educational and professional Christian service wherever needed throughout the world.

In as much as Southwestern Assemblies of God University is motivated by such a noble purpose, and has by the blessing of God Himself prospered thus far to accomplish its purpose, and in as much as the history of higher education demonstrates that mere maintenance of programs is inadequate to advance the Kingdom of God, it is vital that the University face the future with pure and passionate resolve. To that end, we do establish the following resolution:

Whereas, many colleges and universities in the United States were founded to propagate the Gospel through the development of ministers and lay leaders and have since strayed from that mission; and

Whereas, young men and women need a viable educational alternative to secular universities where they can be challenged academically, while being immersed in an environment that will promote spiritual growth; and

Whereas, reports indicate that only 6% of Assemblies of God youth attend Assemblies of God institutions of higher education, and

Whereas, there is a need for quality Christian education that reflects the fundamental beliefs and core values of the Assemblies of God; and

Whereas, all members of the body of Christ are called to be ministers in whatever vocation to which God calls them, and

Whereas, there is an identifiable need in the Assemblies of God for trained ministers and leaders who have a passion for God and compassion for people; and

Whereas, there is a need for more diversified academic programs in Christian higher education to meet expanding ministry opportunities in society, and

Whereas, we recognize a major responsibility of Southwestern Assemblies of God University for playing a vital role in world evangelism through leadership development;

Therefore be it resolved, that Southwestern Assemblies of God University in pursuing its stated purpose to take aggressive steps toward institution-wide growth to meet the evolving demands of ministry in society through the formation of a PFMP that addresses our biblical mandate, academic expansion, appropriate facilities, sufficient personnel and adequate funding.
