Onward & Upward - "Toward the High Calling Mark of God."

I can remember when God challenged me to continue my graduate education. I questioned Him time and time again, just as many of you are doing now.

For me to continue formal studies I would have to make what I knew would be drastic changes. I would have to resign my church, sell almost everything my wife and I had accumulated the previous six years and move my wife and two children over a thousand miles where the seminary was located. I did not have a job waiting for me, I did not know how I was going to pay for my seminary studies and I had not been formally accepted into the program.

God used that time of transition as a faith builder for my wife and me. We waited and prayed knowing we were to go but not knowing how we were to get from where we were to where we were being sent. Then God began to move. The doublewide mobile home that we had called home for over 2 years sold on our very last Sunday at the church. We had enough money from the sale to make the move and to settle in our new location. Looking back now it seems so foolish in the natural but ”I knew that I knew” that I was to continue my education.

That reminds me of the story of a young man meeting Albert Einstein for the first time and not knowing who he was.

"What do you do?" the young man asked Einstein.

"I am a student of physics," Einstein answered, "And Yourself?"

"I finished physics last year," the young man replied.

Are you, like the student, “finished” or are you, like Einstein, continually learning and perfecting yourself “toward the mark of the high calling of God?”
