God's Truth

Graduate School will be too hard. I’m not smart enough. I could never pass the GRE. Do these statements sound familiar? We are often plagued with negative self-talk. We defeat ourselves before we even begin by substituting our own view of “truth” for God’s truth.

Self-destructive behavior limits what God can do through us due to our own inhibitions. Proverbs 23:7 states, “…as a man thinks in his heart, so is he…” If we convince ourselves that we are unable to do something, then we will never accomplish it. It becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.

We often forget God’s truth that tells us, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” The book of Romans instructs us to renew our minds daily. Replacing negative self-talk with faith building scripture will move our focus away from the misconstrued truth of man and lead to self actualization based on God’s truth. Frank Peretti, in his lecture “The Chair,” states, “Why are you looking for truth within yourself when you are the one who is confused.” God is the only source of truth. Our own senses will simply lead us astray.

God will equip us for the tasks that God has called us to. Through His help, we can be successful in graduate studies. We will further our intellectual development.

We can pass the GRE. What we have to remember is we are not limited by our own abilities. We can be empowered to do great things by the hand of God in our life.

If you are being called to further your education through graduate studies, do not allow negative self-perceptions to prevent you from moving forward. Focus on the call of God and step into the realization of His truth.
