Exit Comprehensive Exam
There are no exceptions to the requirement regarding the written comprehensive examination and the oral examination.
Written comprehensive examinations are administered by the Dean of Graduate Studies. You may take the written examinations here at the Graduate Studies office or through an approved proctor via the School of Distance Education. This process should be completed no later than two weeks before the graduation date of the student. If at all possible, the process should be completed at least three weeks before the desired graduation date of the student. Both of these examinations must be completed and passed prior to graduation, whether you are participating in the graduation ceremonies or not. No exceptions will be made to this deadline.
The written comprehensive examination for the M.S. in Theological Studies and the M.S. in Education will consist of four complete essay questions selected to represent core courses from the students degree plan component.
The M.S. in Counseling Psychology written comprehensive examination consists of a three hour timed exam which is a practice exam quite similar to the one the graduate will take at the Texas State Board for licensure.
Regardless of the degree being pursued, the written exam must be taken and the grade reported to the Dean before the oral examination is given, usually a minimum of one week should be scheduled between the written and the oral exam.
Questions are constructed and graded by the professor who taught the course. Evaluations are marked satisfactory, marginal, or unsatisfactory and returned to the Dean. Only an unsatisfactory evaluation is disqualifying and will require that another question be admitted and successfully completed within time to allow further processing prior to the student's graduation date.
Please feel free to contact Harrison School of Graduate Studies if you have any questions.
