Waxahachie, TX- June 30, 2014- The dust has hardly had time to settle on the diamond for the Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) Baseball Lions but Coach Sam Blackmon has been working to secure the future of the team.  The 2014 season was a year of rebuilding for the lions and ended with a record of 18-33.  For the 2015 SAGU baseball team nearly two dozen new faces will be filling the roster.

Anthony Mantalvo is an infielder from Mansfield Summitt High School in Mansfield, Texas.   Coach Blackmon believes Mantalvo is a key signee for the Lions,  “Anthony is a great young man and we are really excited having him as our first signee for the 2014-2015 recruiting class.”

Tyler Miller is from Moody High School in Moody, Texas.  Miller will be a dual player in both pitching and outfield.  Miller was on the all-district team the past two years.

Michael Heron is from Frisco High School and is a dual player that will spend time pitching as well as in the outfield.

Jake Payonk is from Caldwell High School in Caldwell, Texas.  Coach Blackmon says, “Jake is a very gifted player and an exceptional young man.  We are excited about what he brings to us."

Jarrayd Maybin is another recruit coming from Waco Robinson High School in Waco, Texas.  Coach Blackmon tells us that Maybin's athleticism is what caught his attention, "Jarrayd is a tremendous athlete and very skilled baseball player."

Jesse Medina is from McCollum High School in San Antonio, Texas.  Medina will be an addition to the pitching staff.

Dylan Meyers is a catcher from Pantego Christian High School in Arlington, Texas. “We believe he will impact our program immediately," says Coach Blackmon.

Anthony Arechiga is from Ferris High School but comes to SAGU from Navarro Junior College.  Arechiga will play in the outfield.

Zach Lynch is from McGregor High School in McGregor, Texas.  Lynch is a pitcher and utility player.

Kevin McCreight is from Grace Prep in Arlington, Texas but comes to SAGU from El Paso Junior College.  McCreight is an infielder and Coach Blackmon believes he will bring leadership to the program.
