All-freshman squad fares well in Oklahoma
Jose Campos turns best time again for the Lions
SHAWNEE, Oklahoma -- In just their second meet ever, the men’s Cross Country team from Southwestern Assemblies of God University improved upon their first.
They shortened the average members’ time from the McMurry University Invitational by an average of three-minutes.
As a group they finished ninth in a field of ten. There were veteran teams from the NCAA Division II and III as well as several NAIA units.
Oklahoma City University won the meet with a team time of 2:07:00.0, an average of 25:24 per runner.
East Central University (Ok) was second, followed by Rogers State University (Ok), St. Gregory’s University (Ok) and Oklahoma Baptist University, who hosted the meet.
The University of Arkansas-Fort Smith took sixth. Then came Oklahoma Christian University, Cowley College (Ks), SAGU and Texas Wesleyan University.
Head Coach Jason Covarrubias and the Lions combined for a time of 2:22:20.00 with team members completing the 8K run in 28:28.
The first-year Lions, who have earned a berth at the NCCAA Nationals in the Dayton suburb of Cedarville, Ohio, were led again by Jose L. Campos (Luling, Tx / Luling HS).
