Jill Dodd Memorial Scholarship
Jill Lynae Dodd was a natural born leader who embraced life and the challenges it offered with all her heart. She had a deep commitment to God and lived the life she professed.
Jill was born in Cincinnati, OH on March 30, 1976 to Rev. James and Susan Dodd. She was sister to James IV and Judith. Her life was marked by dedication, discipline, joy and accomplishment. She was always active in church activities, having been a Missionettes Honor Star, and involved in Children's Church, Sunday School, Youth, Worship Team, dramas and puppet team.
She shined as a talented flutist in the Assemblies of God Fine Arts Program as well as in her high school marching band. Jill also loved to write, and wrote articles for the local newspaper about her high school. During high school she was a National Honor Society Member, graduating from Sheets Memorial High School in 1994 with a 4.0 G.P.A.
Jill attended SAGU from 1994 to 1998, graduating with a BA in Elementary Education with honors. During her time at SAGU, she was an excellent student who applied herself and took pride in her work. Besides her work study position she held for 3 years for Dr. John Wyckoff, she also tutored for Sylvan, was an RA in Collins Dorm, and was a member of the Gold Jackets. Jill also attended Abundant Life Assemblies of God in Grand Prairie, TX, and served as a youth leader as well as started JBQ there. She was also a summer camp counselor for the North TX District Camp in Maypearl.
After graduating, Jill became a 2nd grade teacher at Oak Cliff and then a 3rd grade teacher in Grand Prairie.
Jill went to be with the Lord on December 2, 2000. Jill's family desires not just for Jill to be remembered for her own life, but for the lives she touched and that her memory will continue to have influence. "We had the honor of having our Jill for 24 wonderful years. She leaves a legacy of a vivacious young woman who loved God, family and friends passionately. She will always stay alive in our hearts because of the great impact she made on all those who had the privilege of knowing her."
Jill's legacy still has great impact through the donors and recipients of the Jill Dodd Memorial Scholarship. Her love for education lives on through the Education majors who will be helped financially as they train to impact those in their vocational field.
