Darren Daugherty, Ph.D.
Darren Daugherty, Assistant Professor, Children's Ministries
Ph.D., University of Minnesota
M.A., University of St. Thomas
B.A., North Central University
Darren has a passion for children that is seen in his efforts to reach
kids, minister to families, and to help parents diligently pass on a Christian
heritage to their children.
Darren has been involved in Children's Ministry for over 15 years and Family
Ministry for most of those years. He served as Children's and CE pastor
in Rapid City, SD for one year. Darren then served as the Children's and
Family pastor for 12 years at Summit Church in St. Paul, MN. Darren's
intern was then hired to be the children's pastor as Darren became the Family
Life Pastor. He then served for 2 years in that position, which involved
growing family ministry and functioning as the team leader of the Family Life
team. This team consisted of Darren and the pastors of the age-specific
ministries (children's, youth, and young adult pastors). Together they
worked to positively impact family members and families, along with creating
intergenerational ministries.
In addition to church ministry, Darren was a part-time college instructor, at two different colleges in Minnesota, for more than 5 years. Darren is a speaker to children, parents, and children's ministry workers. He also serves on the Assemblies of God Commission on Discipleship.
His speaking engagements have included Parenting Seminars, Couples' banquets, Men's retreats, Fathers-and-sons retreats, Fathers-and-daughters dinners, Mothers-and-sons dinners, Family camps, Children's camps, Special Touch camps (adults with mental disabilities), Royal Family Kids Camps (abused and neglected children).
His writings include a number of articles in various publications (Enrichment Journal, Christian Counseling Today, etc.) and a published book, “When God Became ApParent.”
His role is to lead the children's ministry specialization at Southwestern Assemblies of God University (www.sagu.edu). Darren and Wendy have a mentoring style of ministry which helped them to grow many children and teens into adult children's workers. They operate with the same relational-pastoral-style of ministry as they mentor university students into ministry to children and families.
