MTNA wins Collegiate Chapter of the Year

The Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) Collegiate Chapter of the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) has been selected as the 2013 MTNA-Benjamin Whitten Collegiate Chapter of the Year. The chapter was recognized at the MTNA National Conference in Anaheim, Cali., on Tuesday, March 12.

Faculty sponsor Dr. Lee Hing said, “This is incredibly exciting news for all of our members. The executive team was excited to attend their first MTNA National Conference and be recognized publicly at the award ceremony.

We are grateful for the support of our administrators, faculties, students, and also the community of Waxahachie. Without their support, financially or otherwise, the members of the collegiate chapter would not have had the opportunity to win such a prestigious award.”

The MTNA-Benjamin Whitten Collegiate Chapter of the Year award honors the chapter for their commitment to the music teaching profession and MTNA, for activities strongly oriented toward music-making and teaching, and for advancing the music teacher profession among the next generation.

MTNA invited the executive team to the MTNA National Conference to accept the award. The conference took place in the Disneyland Hotel Convention Center Magic Kingdom Ballroom 1. MTNA President Benjamin Caton presented the award and a check for $500 to the SAGU collegiate chapter during the annual business meeting of the association.

The SAGU MTNA chapter was established on May 24, 2012, and has 11 SAGU student members. They are affiliated with MTNA and the Texas Music Teachers Association.

MTNA was founded in 1876 to advance the value of music study and music-making to society and support teachers of music. The organization provides a collective voice for music teachers worldwide, with a United States membership nearing 22,000 members.
